Short answer: no. Kenya tightened its used-vehicle import rules from 1 January 2026 under the KEBS standard, and left-hand-drive (LHD) vehicles are no longer accepted for import — Kenya is a right-hand-drive (RHD) market. A China-sourced LHD Land Cruiser therefore cannot be legally cleared for use in Kenya today.
The rule in detail
- Drive side: RHD only for used imports, effective 1 January 2026.
- Age limit: vehicles must be model-year 2019 or newer (a rolling window that advances each year).
- Exceptions: ambulances, fire-fighting vehicles and a small set of specialised vehicles are exempt from the age/drive-side restriction — private passenger and light-commercial imports are not.
Why this blocks our stock specifically
Our entire export inventory — pickups and 4x4 SUVs — is sourced in China and is left-hand drive. That includes the Toyota-badged units we carry: a used Land Cruiser 70 or Land Cruiser 300 / Prado 250 in our line is a reconditioned LHD export vehicle, not a RHD Kenya-market unit. Under the KEBS standard, the drive-side mismatch alone makes clearance non-viable regardless of age or condition.
Why we list Kenya as a caution market
We keep Kenya on our destination map as an excluded / restricted market so buyers don't order LHD stock that cannot be registered there. This is a hard compliance line, not a paperwork detail — clearing an LHD used vehicle in Kenya today is not a realistic option, and we would rather flag it up front than let you pay freight on a unit that gets refused at Mombasa.
