Sourcing a used Toyota Prado from China for export to Nigeria in 2026 is a process question before it is a price question. Nigerian dealers and fleet buyers want a Prado that clears SONCAP, carries a valid Form M and PAAR, and lands in Lagos without surprises. This guide covers the verified used LHD Prado stock we hold, the engine and model-year limits you must respect, the Nigerian conformity path, and how to structure inspection, payment and shipping so the unit you order is the unit you receive.
What our verified used Prado stock actually is
RuggedRides Export holds a physical used LHD 4x4 stock in China. For the Prado, the verified inventory is model years 2016 to 2019 only. Engines are the 2.7L I4 petrol (159-163 hp) or the 3.5L V6 petrol (280 hp). Both are automatic and both are AWD. We do not attribute any other Prado engine or year range to our stock, and we will not quote a unit outside those parameters. Each unit carries a stock number and real photos, so you can review the actual vehicle before you commit.
If you need a different body style or a newer platform, review the wider used LHD 4x4 stock or the new-vehicle ranges on the pickup and 4x4 SUV pages. The Prado-specific stock is listed at /4x4/prado-used.
Why Nigerian buyers focus on the Prado
The Prado is a ladder-frame midsize SUV with genuine ground clearance and a reputation for durability on poor road surfaces. For Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt duty cycles, that matters more than trim badges. Fleet buyers typically value three things: a chassis that tolerates patched roads and seasonal flooding, an engine that runs on the fuel available at the pump, and parts availability in the local market. The Prado scores well on all three, which is why it remains a common request from Nigerian trade buyers.
Our role is not to overstate the vehicle. It is to make sure the specification you receive matches the specification you ordered, and that the documentation is complete before the vessel sails.
Engine choice: 2.7L I4 versus 3.5L V6
Within our verified 2016-2019 stock, you have two petrol engines. The choice depends on duty cycle, not on preference alone.
| Engine | Output | Best suited to | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.7L I4 petrol | 159-163 hp | Light urban and municipal use | Automatic, AWD; lower running cost, modest highway performance |
| 3.5L V6 petrol | 280 hp | Mixed urban and intercity fleets | Automatic, AWD; stronger reserve for loaded highway duty |
For dealers supplying corporate or government-adjacent buyers who cover intercity routes, the 3.5L V6 is usually the safer resale specification. For buyers who need a lower entry point for predominantly urban use, the 2.7L I4 is a legitimate option. We will confirm which units are available in each engine at the time of your enquiry.
The Nigerian conformity path: what to prepare
Every used vehicle import into Nigeria passes through regulatory checkpoints before Nigeria Customs Service release. The exact fees and processing times are confirmed by the export desk per order, but the sequence is consistent.
- Form M. The consignee's Nigerian bank raises Form M against a valid Tax Identification Number and CAC registration. You need a pro forma invoice, HS code, product description and consignee KYC. Form M has a validity window, so timing matters.
- SONCAP. A pre-shipment Product Certificate is issued by an approved inspection agent at the port of loading. We coordinate the inspection booking before container or RoRo loading. The certificate confirms the vehicle meets the applicable standards.
- PAAR. The Pre-Arrival Assessment Report is issued by Nigeria Customs Service on receipt of Form M and pre-shipment documents. It contains the classification and duty pre-calculation. Without Form M and PAAR, vessel discharge is not authorised.
- Vehicle age limit. Nigeria enforces an age cap on imported used vehicles. Confirm the current cutoff with your clearing agent before you order, because a unit that fails the age test cannot be regularised at the port.
We recommend appointing a Nigerian clearing agent early. The agent can confirm current duty treatment, VAT and levies for your specific classification. Duty rates, VAT and transit times vary by order and are confirmed by the export desk.
Inspection before deposit
Third-party inspection before deposit is available. This is the single most useful risk control for an overseas buyer. The inspection should cover chassis and undercarriage condition, odometer verification through the diagnostic port rather than the cluster alone, engine specification confirmation against the VIN, and the presence of any repaired structural damage. You receive the report before you wire funds.
Because every used unit is price on request, the inspection report and the stock photos form the basis of the quotation. Ask for the stock number and the real photos for any unit you are considering.
Shipping and documentation
We ship to 30 markets across Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Latin America. For Nigeria, the usual channels are RoRo and container from Chinese ports to Lagos. The export desk confirms the sailing schedule, freight and transit time for your order. Transit times vary by service and season, so build a buffer into your registration or delivery commitments.
The document set for each shipment includes the export invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin. Your clearing agent will also need the SONCAP certificate, Form M and PAAR. Marine insurance is arranged at the standard CIF uplift, which covers the customary freight and insurance addition to the FOB value; the export desk confirms the exact basis for your order.
Payment structure
We keep payment terms simple and documented. A deposit confirms the order and reserves the stock number. The balance is settled against the export documents before shipment. For first-time buyers or larger bundles, a documentary credit can be discussed with the export desk. We do not publish fixed deposit percentages because terms vary by order and by buyer history; the export desk confirms the structure in writing.
Building a Nigeria-specific order
To move quickly, send the following to the export desk:
- Target model year within the verified 2016-2019 Prado range
- Preferred engine: 2.7L I4 or 3.5L V6
- Quantity and intended duty cycle (urban, intercity, fleet)
- Destination port and clearing agent details
- Whether you require third-party inspection before deposit
We will respond with available stock numbers, real photos, and a quotation on request. If you are comparing the Prado against other used 4x4 options, the used LHD 4x4 stock page shows the wider inventory, including the Tank 300, BJ40, Patrol and Land Cruiser 70. New-platform alternatives are listed at Land Cruiser 300 / Prado 250.
Practical cautions for Nigerian buyers
Order the specification you can document, not the specification you hope to find at the port. A VIN-verified engine and a clean inspection report are worth more than a lower headline price.
- Confirm the age cutoff with your clearing agent before ordering.
- Do not accept an engine substitution without a revised quotation and inspection report.
- Lock the freight quotation before the deposit, not after.
- Keep Form M validity in mind when scheduling the vessel.
